6/1/2009

The Solon students who traveled to East Lansing, Michigan, this past weekend for the Future Problem Solvers International Competition earned the most awards of any Ohio schools. During the four-day competition, students from 43 states and eight countries competed (with additional students in other countries participating via virtual connections).

For the high school team, the Community Problem Solving project Pass the Pulse, an informational awareness-building campaign about the need for organ donors, earned fourth place. The project had earned the first place medal in the state competition in early May. Team members are Kathy Qian, Kerry Gould, Liz Jones, Sarah Davis Newhouse, Sharon Wong, Stephanie Sang, Marissa Kluk and Shaina Kass.

Additional high school winners included first place in the alternate packet middle division by Oliver Chen, third place in the alternate packet senior division by Eugene Rabinovich and seventh place in the team packet middle division by Michael Li, Michael Zeng, Johnathan Zeng and William Qu.

In the middle school division, Yumi Gambrill placed second in the individual competition and Thomas Yi placed second in the alternate competition.

In the junior division, Orchard students Jon Huang placed fourth in the individual competition and Stephen Dayneka, Eric Ma, Zach Bogorad and Anthony Immormino earned third place in the team competition.
