Solon Middle School Raises $1,327 in ALS Ice Bucket ChallengeMonday, August 25, 2014
Solon Middle School exceeded its ALS Ice Bucket Challenge goal of besting the $1,000 raised by the Solon High School Band last week. With a minimum donation of $1, SMS students were able to enter a raffle to join the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by dousing assistant principal Scott Hatteberg.
Student pledges totaled $1,127, earning them a matching gift of $200, for a total donation of of $1,327 to the area ALS association.
Nine students and one teacher were drawn at random during the SMS Back-to-School Meet & Greet Dance and all earned the right to dump a bucket of icy water on Mr. Hatteberg.

Back by popular demand is the Solon Middle School PTA Comet Card, a savings card for many local merchants. The card is an SMS PTA fundraiser that allows the users to receive discounts and free items at area restaurants and other stores. The card is only $10 and is good through December 2015.

Summer Keyboarding Practice for Solon Middle School Students Friday, June 20, 2014
Solon Middle School provides a Google App for students to practice keyboarding skills over the summer. Students in 7th and 8th grade can access the online Typing Club program to help them learn and improve their typing speed and accuracy using the correct finger placement. The program provides a series of lessons that move from basic to advanced skills.
Students have easy access to this application at home and school through their Solon Google account. Students simply need to log in to their Google account at home, click on the "Apps" icon and then click on the "Typing Club" app.

PTA School Supply Sale for Solon Middle School Seventh and Eighth Grade Students
The Solon Middle School PTA provides on online school supply order program as a convenience for families.
The voluntary program allows families to place an order for needed supplies and have the supplies delivered directly to their homes. The SMS 2014-15 order program through Innisbrook is under way now and continues through July 28.
To place an order online for home-delivered supplies, go to www.ordermypack.com and enter the SMS school code: 103510.
Please note that families may select the pack with or without a flash drive.

Solon Students Bring Home Trophies from Future Problem Solving International CompetitionMonday, June 16, 2014
Solon students won second and third place awards at the Future Problem Solving International Competition at Iowa State University over the weekend.
Solon Middle School seventh grader Lea Kim earned second place honors for Scenario Writing in the middle division.
Solon High School’s ninth grade team – Hannah Edelman, Madeleine Burland and Connor Strobel – placed third in Global Issues Problem Solving also in the middle division.
“Approximately 2,000 students from 12 nations and most of the 50 states competed in the International Competition this year,” said Solon FPS advisor Sabrina Tirpak. “I am so proud of our Solon student competitors. They all worked hard and represented our school admirably.”
